lan problem

I m having 5pcs and 1 server. there win98 installed in one pc . when i want to transfer any files from lan . my system hangs instantly. i have also formated it and changed lan card.

Firstly which OS's have you installed apart from the win98 that you mentioned.
Which is the Server operating system?
Does the "hanging" occur randomely or always w.r.t to one pc?

You need to give us details of all the PCs, the server, the network configuration (DHCP/static IP), the firewall settings (if any) before we can even guesstimate what's causing the problem and its solution.

server has win2000 server. i m having 2 department in my office. dept no .1 has 5 pcs with win98 installed. one pc of this dept has the above prob.
