Just how tight is your budget ? 10/100Mbps LAN cards are quite cheap. As you're from Mumbai, you should be able to get one based on the popular Realtek 8139 chip for around Rs.200.

I paid a brief visit to eBay and saw a used card for 150/-, pickup and pay or Rs.20 extra for local delivery. And a new one for Rs.190 plus 25/- for delivery within Mumbai.
