i have been a dial-up user for quite a while now, and even though i get connected at around 48 kb/s, still why file downloads never exceed 5kb/s, can anybody help me with this?

I think this is b'coz 1 byte equal 8bits
NOw you get speed of 48 kbits
but download show it in 5 Kbytes !!

this is wht i feel is correct

connection at 48 kbps
48/6 = 6 kbps max download

and if u get 6 kbps download then that also means 6 kbps upload

so wht i mean to say is upload and download speeds dun affect each other

mebbe i m wrong

guys correct me if i m wrong [my computers basics are poor] :cry:

vyaksh is very right if u get connected at 48kbps it is as good as 6 KBps
u might have known that well if ur not getting the above speed there are many softwares in which u can boost up ur speed for example
modem boost well search on google u`ll get it
