OOps I gave you a wrong DNS.

Are you able to ping your router @ 192.168.1.1? If not turn down your firewall and try. Assign a static IP for your card
192.168.1.2
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS primary 202.145.184.13
secondary 202.56.230.5

If you still cannot ping your router you will have to check your card, and maybe your router if icmp ping has been turned off

Did you try everything above^^^^^^^^^^^
If you did, go to 192.168.1.1 in your browser, and login to your router
Check the WAN settings with the help of AirTel customer care. You will need to know your VPI/VCI and other settings. If you have a metered connection by time or bandwidth usage, then you will have to use a bridging mode.

In your internet explorer, connection settings, set it to never dial a connection and auto detect proxy. Disable any VPN settings which may be there

Hmmm, sorry, I'm stumped. If you can access your router page on 192.168.1.1 in internet explorer then no problem in the connection between the router and pc. The only possibilities I can think of now are
1. Wrong DNS numbers, get the correct ones from Customer Care
2. Wrong WAN settings, get the correct settings from Customer Care
3. Faulty cable? Does the Link light glow steadily?

And yes I forgot, you are using Windows :D We had an interesting virus once in our college that blocked all outgoing network traffic.
