Well -- Upon further search, I came across the Enclosures with USB / Firewire port that claim to facilitate usage of Internal drives (HDD / DVD-Writers) as External drive..

Has anyone used these? Any feedback?

Yes, external casings also exist for optical drives similar to hdd's. They cost about 700-800 and work pretty good. You can even use it to boot from them via USB and it is possible to burn DVD's at all speeds. Casings with firewire support can be a bit more costlier, USB ones would do just fine. You can get it from any hardware vendor in your area.
