India's Proposal For Government Control of Internet To Be Discussed In Geneva

ssdivisiongermany1933

Still in war with allies
The Indian Government is proposing to create an intergovernmental body 'to develop internet policies, oversee all internet standards bodies and policy organizations, negotiate internet-related treaties and sit in judgment when internet-related disputes come up.' This committee will be funded and staffed by the UN and will report to the UN General Assembly which effectively means the control of the internet passes on to World Governments directly.

Yeah, so when some country breaches the treaty it can be nuked to death...Internet has to be a free place and not with some censorship.

Looks like Indian Government is shitting their pants. For the first time (since the struggle for independence, I think) people have the power to voice their opinions and that power is so great that the government is now scared of the people. The government only wants to see the people suppressed and docile.

What is the use of democracy if there is no platform for people to communicate and discuss on neutral grounds?

India now reminds me of a maggoty corpse of an animal that died years ago. You can guess who the maggots are.

Yea they did, it made on the front page of ET...that's awesome job they did to show Govt doesn't own the internet ;)

There was an article which said "Producers lose money due to piracy as the film reaches torrents before it hits the cinema", why not fix the leaks from the production house to the cinema hall instead of blocking the whole internet!?

If possible please cite the source to said article.

Indeed, blocking torrents will not solve the problem, since the percentage people who download from torrents is much smaller as compared to the number of people buying movies from roadside DVD vendors.
