AWACS technology is sweet! I've experienced it (virtually) in a game (Freespace 2), but it's the same thing, really! It should give India a really long line of sight and detailed tactical surveillance. It's good to hear this news.

The Phalcon AWACS will help India monitor the movement of aircraft and troop build-up both during war and hostile situations. The AWACS will be able to look at least 400 miles into enemy territory and give advance warning on potential enemy threat, like enemy missiles or aircrafts . The air defence of our country will be made much more responsive.

Back to school!!
AWACS was there in the last level of HAWX, and you could see it in every major air combat movie, SWEET.

None of you ever played F-16 Multi Role Fighter, Mig-29 Fulcrum or F-22 Lightning 3 flight sims? I think Freespace 2 would be something similar to Novalogic's Tachyon: The Fringe. I hope Freespace 2 is "available", been wanting to play a flight/space sim for a long time.

BTW congrats on the Phalcons.

Think a few days ago Pakistan Air chief Air Marshal said, this has triggered a new arms race between both countries. and they'll have their own AWACS by the end of September, this year.

And I lol'ed.

Islamabad, May 29, IRNA - Pakistan Air Chief Air Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman has said purchase of airborne warning and control system (AWACS) by India has triggered a new arms race in the region.

“Pakistan will also have the AWACS in September this year,” he told newsmen at Risalpur.

He said Pakistan is also acquiring F-16s and latest technology including five hundred beyond visual range (BVR) missiles from the US.

Responding to a question, the Air Chief Marshal said Pakistan has the capability to shoot down drones and referred to the shooting down of Indian surveillance plane in 2002.

He said if Pakistan shoots down US drone aircraft, the Americans will send squad of fighter planes the very next day.

“Pak army cannot take the initiative of war against the US and Nato countries and it is the duty of the government and parliament to take this decision”.

Talking to media, he said, “We do have the technology of shooting down the drone planes, previously we shot down a spy plane without pilot of India, but now before doing this we have to keep an eye on the upcoming results of our acts”.

He said Pakistan Air Force is supporting the military in its ongoing operation in Swat and Malakand division.

He added air force has destroyed several hideouts and caches of ammunitions of militants, paving the way for the ground forces to make advances in Swat.

He concluded that Pakistan Air force is fully capable to cope with any internal or external threat.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has voiced concern over the acquisition of Airborne Warning And Control System (AWACS) aircraft by India and said it would counter the threat by inducting 500 American Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missiles. ( Watch )

Claiming that induction of AWACS by India would trigger a new arms race in the subcontinent, Pakistan's Air chief Air Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman said Islamabad would match this capability by acquiring its own AWACS by September this year.

This, when a US Congressional report has said that Pakistan with about 60 nuclear warheads; primarily targeted towards India, is continuing production of fissile material for weapons and adding to its weapons production facilities and delivery vehicles.

The Air chief told newsmen in Risalpur that Pakistan was also procuring more US-made F-16 fighter aircraft.

Suleman was commenting on reports that India had inducted the first of its three Phalcon AWACS into the Indian Air Force.

Pakistan is proposing to buy a Swedish SAAB Ericsson AWACS, which however, have a limited range as compared to the Phalcons.

The Air Chief said PAF was supporting the military in its ongoing operations in Swat and Malakand in NWFP. "PAF had destroyed several Taliban hideouts and caches of ammunition to pave the way for rapid advance by ground forces in Swat."

Asked about whether Pakistan had capability to shoot down drones, Suleman said "definitely" and cited the shooting down of an Indian surveillance plane in 2002 near Lahore.

Pakistan's GDP isn't that high, so the "ARMS RACE" will cause the people of Pakistan to die out of hunger and poverty, they should look after the people.
