guys my i7 920 is constantly running at 2.79GHz from 5th day of purchase even if no process is running and CPU utilization is 1%
is this some thing to do with windows or what

WHY?????????????
This the cpu-z Validator output

I did the stress testing using linX the speed goes up from 2.79GHz to2.8
the cou utilization goes 100% memory utilization is 95%
But it does not return to 2.7Gz stock speed!!

That screen shot clearly shows you cores are not on load. What is the issue now..? Or I did not understand..?

Dude,

From the screenshot i can tell that you must immediately uninstall the 2nd widget completely. The intel i7 turbo booster. I had the same installed when i got my new pc and found that it increases the processor speed whenever necessary. But the disadvantage of that it is not very efficient and heats up the CPU; also this widget consumes CPU power when it starts working.
So uninstall the widget completely, and go to msconfig and disable it from startup as well if it still resides there.

Hope that helps. Try the steps mentioned above and report back.

Cheers,
Cosmos

P.S. Why only 4gb ram!!! U r not utilizing the tri-channel power of i7 dude.

@Cosmos: I Uninstalled the widget completely disabled it from my startup but cpu-Z still shows
core speed 2800MHz

P.S. Why only 4gb ram!!! U r not utilizing the tri-channel power of i7 dude.

Could u explain it??
i bought Only 4GB becoz my budget way exceeded way abv the limit
Actualy it was 45k w/o monitor
but i bought 55k w/o monitor

One of the features on the 920 is triple channel memory. To tell in a very crude way, you need RAM in multiples of 3, infact the sticks should be in multiple of 3. So its 3GB (1x3) or 6GB(2x3) or 12GB(2x6) and so on...

not a big difference between dual and tri channel in practical apps anyways...

The MCH sees the three DIMMs as one large module, and the data channeling is quicker. Throughput between the CPU and RAM goes up.

OP:
Do these three things. And lets end this.
1. Download LinX.
2. Post a screen shot of the first CPU-Z tab with LinX running in the background.
3. Post a screen shot of the first CPU-Z tab with LinX NOT running in the background. The system should be on idle.

Try to reset the BIOS once from the BIOS setting.

Sam/Azad/Rahul:
