Guys im having the GTA-SA folder wich i installed it from my friend onto my HDD,now i dont hv the Cd,but i want to backup the whole game and setup files from my GTA-SA folder wich is a mammoth 4.7 GB onto CDs..(multiple CDs) Now My querry is --->

How can i break up the files into smaller partitions of 700 MB each (coz each CD-R is of the capacity of 700MB) and without any problems so that they can be copied onto multiple CDs ?? :? :?

As i dont hv the original DVD from wich i installed the game..Also if in future,i format my HDD then by using these CDs,I can copy and paste the files and play the game again...

Cheers n e-peace....

WinRAR is what you need. Make it an RAR archive and create parts of size 700MB.

To do this, from the Tools Menu, Select Wizard, Select Make a new archive, select the game folder and below that add the size of each part which in your case would be 700MB. and leave the rest on WinRAR.

To extract, open any of the part files with WinRAR and extract where you want to. Since in your case it would be some cds, you would have to keep popping in the new cds one after another.

Thanx buddy..:) So according to u,wen i hv finished making the GTA-SA into a WinRAR type format then...while burning the files onto the Cd...shud I open the WinRAR GTA-SA folder and do it?? :? If u can try and explain to me a bit more in detail,i will be really gr8ful bro !:)

As the wizard tells me that If u wish to split the Archive into several parts, enter the size of a single part,in BYTES in the field below the option also contains these --->7000, 1,457,664-3.5" (i think this is for a floopy..rite ?), 98,078k-ZIP-100, 650m-CD-650M, 700m-CD-700M and lastly Autodetect....so wichof tese options shud i select?? as i think accordin to my conversions,700MB=7x10^8 (7,00,00,00,00 bytes) considering tht 1000 Bytes =1KB...so plz help me out.. :?

U shud definitely select the "700 MB" option.
Also remember to add a Recovery Record b4 spliiting the file
RAR archive format supports a special type of redundant information called a recovery record. If an archive has a recovery record, it can be repaired even in case of physical data damage due to floppy disk failure or data losses of any other kind. The ZIP archive format does not support a recovery record.

Do that while creating the Archive it will help u when "By-Chance" u encounter error while extracting the files back from the Cds.

Buddy did u mean this option--->700m-CD-700M :? :? coz this is wats given in the drop down menu of WinRAR.... :?

Also..from where can i find the Recovery Record option?? is it present in the Wizard..coz i didnt encountered any option as such.. :?

The other options also contain these additional options:
 Faster,but less tight compression.
 Delete files after Archiving. and..
 Creats self-Extracting(.exe) archive. (i think i shud select this option also... :? )

Please suggest...

yes select the 700m-CD-700M option and let WinRAR do the rest.

burn the indivitual part RAR files on the Cds. Suppose there are 5 cds. You can insert the first cd and open the rar file and click on extract and give the location. it would prompt you for the subsequent cd with the other parts.

Other way would be to paste all the individual part files from all the cds in the same folder and open one of the part files and extract once and for all the entite game folder.

Hope you get it now :d

Thanx Sourabh, but one more question, can i directly burn the RAR files(by copying and sending process in NERO) rather than extracting each 700MB RAR GTA-SA folder into the CD-r??

Shud i double click on each (700MB) folder converted in RAR format and then extract it by giving the location as that of my CD-R ?? is tat wat u meant?? :? :?

Coz i hv not done it b4 so jus clarifying my doubts..It would be gr8ful if u and other guys would help me out..:)

Yes you only have to create a normal Data Cd in Nero by selecting the part rar file. So each cd would have 1 Rar archive in the root path.
