I thought of having a dualboot system on my Vista.. with XP running as the other OS (compatibility probs with lotsa games & programs)... i partitioned my default C: drive in 160GB harddisk (i've another 160GB HD to.. dual HDs :D) using Vista's disk management.. the new partition was easily detected & it works a breeze.

Then I'm supposed to install WinXP with it's boot disc.. copying started... & then the surprise.. a message stating that Windows XP didn't identify any HD!!! It read "ANY" harddisk.. when I had two!!! In the bios options(which were all set rightly), I analysed my HDs which were fine in all aspects. But the damn XP wasn't able to detect the HD.

That too after an Ubuntu installation last month happily detected & installed the OS (the Ubuntu is gone now.. & the drives are back to factory condition). Ubuntu realised the HDs but not WinXP!

Any ideas as to what went wrong.. & what can be done... I need an XP installation in my Vistaed HD. Dual booting, Dual partition...

remove ur Vista HD , n then install on Second HDD . this way both'll be isolated and u can select to boot anyone during startup .

I too have a 250+40 GB HDD setup and XP detecs both of em perfectly . :)

Your HDD is SATA and you will have to do slipstreaming, make a new installation of XP with your genuine XP cd that you have using nlite. Download sata drivers for your PC from the official HP website and add them into new installation via nlite. Xp installation will work perfectly then and will recognize your HDD with no probs during install.

I've VISTA.. XP is not installed @ all.. it doesn't even install as the harddrives are reported missing by the bootable disc in the initial XP instalation phaze after copying files & b4 selecting of partitions to install into.

I need an easy way out... where are the other superheroes?
