Hi there...

How do I get my HP Deskjet 3550 running under Ubuntu? There aren't any drivers at the HP website...

if u r using Ubuntu 6.06 or 6.10, then dont worry. plug in the printer through USB ( i think 3550 uses USB). then turn it on. It might be auto-detected. if it is, gud enough. if it is not, then :-

System-Administration-Printing.

Settings:-
Local Printer
USB/LPT1

HP 3550 in the printers list
then install the printer.

just plug the printer in usb port and then turn on.
Go to terminal and check the printer by using "lsusb" command.
It make sure the printer is detected.
Then go to Administration-->Printing-->New/Add Printer and follow the necessary steps.

Ubuntu have inbuilt driver database and it automatically select your printer driver. You can't get the actual driver....in ubuntu it prompts like "HP 3000 Series " driver.

Another way you can configure your printer by using cups, specially if you want to share your printer.

Open Firefox or any browser and write this *localhost:631

Though I am New to in Ubuntu, Correct me if I am saying wrong anything.
