You could have posted this in QnA section.

You boot to Windows XP, and then go to Command Prompt mode. Here type fdisk/mbr and press ENTER.

After this, Go to Administrative Options in Control Panel, and here choose Disk Management, and here you delete the Linux partitions (by selecting it in the graphical display of patitions), there must be two Linux partitions, one a big one EXT3, and another small one SWAP.
Restart.

i had done that previously. i completely formatted the drive on which linux had been installed. but than, grub - the boot loader, still remained. how do i get rid of this?

If you have XP

Procedure with Windows XP
Under Windows XP, you can restore the original MBR (thus uninstalling Lilo)
as follows:
Boot from the Windows XP CD, press the key "R" in the setup in order to
start the restoration console. Select your Windows XP installation from the
list, and enter the administrator password. Enter the command "FIXMBR" at
the input prompt and confirm the next question with "y". Finally, use "exit"
to restore the computer.
