@Shaunak, The Ubuntu GNOME themes are stored in the directory /usr/share/themes.
Just type :
$ ls /usr/share/themes

It will output the themes you have installed or available (by default).

Here is the procedure for removing the Themes manually:

$ sudo rm -R /usr/share/themes/Mist

This will delete the 'Mist' theme & it's sub-directories.
Replace 'Mist' with whatever theme you want to delete.

As per your output there is not theme by name 'butvista'!!
Do one thing open the GNOME search tool.
$ gnome-search-tool

Specify the parameters as follows:

Name contains : butvista
Look in folder : File System

Click on 'Find' button. You also need to 'disable Quick search'.

@Shaunak, I think you installed some Vista theme in Ubuntu!! Is that right??
Tell me what's your problem? I want to know how much space you have allocated
for root('/') & swap? Are you running short of space or getting some errors?

In case you want to install Themes in GNOME the easy way, install the package, gnome-art.

$ sudo apt-get install gnome-art

After installation launch the application. If you choose 'Application Icons' all the
Application icons themes(preview) from GNOME website would be downloaded!!
If you click on 'Install' the theme will be downloaded from the Net & installed.

@Shanuak, Give me the exact URL link to the Theme. The highest rated under GTK 2.x
is Murrine GTK2 Cairo Engine, Click link
Is this the one you are talking about?

Solved the problem on my own! Yay!
went to my home folder listed the files and i saw many files which did not show up in natulius. Then i realized that the files i was looking for were hidden. simply disabled hiding and deleted from .theme folder.
easy.
Finaly imm leaning to solve problems in nix!

Simply Press 'Ctrl + H' to view hidden files!! Any file that starts with a '.' (dot) is a
hidden file. You shouldn't delete the '.theme' directory!! Just delete the contents
of '.theme' directory. That's all. Also some of hidden directories are used by the
Linux O.S. So must be very careful before deleting any hidden directory or file!!
