My system takes a long time to startup and shutdown. It's Very annoying for me. Plz suggest some software to manage and optimize system startup.

Start....Run.....msconfig
Then uncheck the programs you don't need at startup.
OK
If this is a laptop be careful....some driver software might get stopped
But trial and error should get your machine to boot faster.

Another effective but drastic way is to format C: and do a fresh
install (Best option)

And also remove some of the services which are not required

click "run" - type "services.msc" and disable every service which is not required

- First, wipe out

C>Windows>Prefetch (OR) Start>Run> %systemroot%\prefetch

(Hope U know what it is & needs 2/3 boot-ups to take the effect)

- Then check and if needed "defrag" your main drive & if possible the "Registry" too

- Then as said, stop all "services" which are not necessary esp. that of VIRUS SCANNERS that do a boot-up scan.

- Then in BIOS Settings, disable all other boot-up devices expect your "Master" (HDD)

This is the saftest way to do it though ter's are few more "Registry" tweaks which i dont recommend.

U can try/use "Tune-Up Utilities" for defraging the "Main Drive" & "Registry" & getting rid of other junk. Its the safest one for starters :)

better still. as soon as windows 7 releases dump XP and switch over to it. Windows 7 has much faster bootup speed
