Guys, I own a wd mypassport external hdd 1TB. Is it possible to make it as read only for other (users/user accounts) and read and write only for me? Doing so will block virus infections right?
they work differently at least in xp i think but anyway this is no longer necessary.i just did some searching & found out microsoft has removed the autorun.inf ability to execute files from win 7(& later).it is no longer necessary to avoid double click or right click option to open removable drive unless this has just become a habit of earlier xp use.
IMHO, don't plug you HDD into unknown computers and if anybody else wants to use it, first check that they have a good antivirus.
though autorun is disabled in Windows 7, there are some nasty viruses which hide your files and change its attributes to system/archive etc. better be safe than sorry.
Tell them to buy an external hdd themselves if they have a desktop. else ask them to carry their laptops with them to copy data. I have 3 external HDDs (planning to buy another one after 15th may) and i know how difficult it is to manage the data on them. That's Gud but my friends want to take my hdd to their Home but I'm staying in hostel. So I thought modifying file permission for hdd alone would deny write property to others.
