I have created a lot of personal video files but due to their sheer size (145 MB FOR 2 MIN VIDEO )i needed a suitable codec

I used Dr divX 2.0 To encode the videos using div X 6 codec and i now have a bunch of collection

The problem is that all the files are in .divX format and it only plays in divX player . I don't have any div X certified DVD/CD player so only condition is Pc

Now my friends want to share this cd too but the files are not recognized as he doesn't has the decoder or player and also has win98 and a very oooold
Pc

Is there any software like ROXIO VIDEO PLAYER etc which can be encoded in the disc itself so that when any other person share this disc he doesn't have to download or install third party decoder or player. if possible can the codec itself be encoded

Yes, that's the best solution, & just add this s/w in ur DivX disc with a readme file containing info like "Install .... first, to view....."

the .divx files are just containers for divx files. Simply rename the files to .avi, & bundle FFDshow in the CD containing the video files. All in one player written above, won't play if there is no codecs installed on the computer on which the file is going to be played

u've nothing much to do if playing in a computer, just create a notepad file autorun.inf, then type "start xxx.divx" , you can also assign an icon you like.

[and yeah, just check the format of autorun.inf file, just open one and see how it is, i dont remember it, but u dont have to type any more than 2 lines, you easily understand how to assign icon and execute application.]

It seems that U r not trying to understand his prob. Just read carefully, his prob is to play DivX video without installing any decoder. autorun.inf has nothing to do with such prob.

just place vlc executable, or mplayer, on the CD and use autorun.inf, be creative guys, this will do in in few seconds again.

The best option is to make a movix cd. It'll bundle mplayer with all codecs needed to play the files. You can even use the cd as a live cd. Boot into the cd and it'll start you files playing!
