How to enable desktop in XP?

I've got XP Pro and whenever I click on desktop button on quick launch a message appears saying taht I haven't got enough rights to do so & i must contact system administrator but my account is of administrator only that's the only account that exists,please help me.

simple !

create a new admin account to see if you are really an admin !

if not then post here

Boot into safe mode, click on administrator, change ur account to limited and the back to administrator. Well this may help or if u have set password on ADMINISTRATOR account, then this may happen.
