It generally take about 35-40 mins for me to install Win XP. For Win 98 it is usually very fast about 15-17 mins. (My PC is nearly 4 years old!!!)

All specs are for my machine only.

2003 SP1 Only:
If from hard disk, then 15-20 minutes.
If from CD/DVD, about 20-25 minutes.

XP SP2 Only:
If from hard disk, then 12-15 minutes confirmed.
If from CD/DVD, about 20-25 minutes.

98SE Only:
If from hard disk, then about 7-10 minutes.
If from CD/DVD, about 10-15 minutes.

Installation of SP2 later on a non-SP XP version takes about 7-10 minutes on my machine.

How so accurate u guys may say!!
Well, I've experienced 1 HDD crash, 2 faulty HDD's in past 4 months.
Plus 6 Windows reinstallations (2 each).

Ha Ha Ha !!!

Its like I told u so :p

what can i do as they fit in to my budget therefore went for 3GB...

anyway in near future I will make that either 2 or 4 as right now i cant work in Dual Channel mode, and 4GB is the Likely option for me, as I like to work with VPC a lot now days, and while running 3/4/5 OSes one would need some heavy RAM

I don't remember how much time did Vista Ultimate take cos I've installed it just once, and that too about 2 months ago, after which I instantly formatted it & installed XP over it (didn't like it much).
But I think it too about 20-25 minutes from 4x DVD for Vista.
