how do the following sites work??

*news.google.com
www.worldnews.com

these sites display news from various other news sites on their web sites. people visiting these sites get the latest news from several sources.

is it legally OK to display news from various sites on one web page. do they take permission frm the other sites to display news/ news links on their own sites.

final question: how does this work????? do they use RSS Feeds of the target sites on their own websites and then update the news as and when the target sites get updated ?????

thanks....

read this :
n March 2005, Agence France Presse (AFP) sued Google for $17.5 million, alleging that Google News infringed on its copyright because "Google includes AFP’s photos, stories and news headlines on Google News without permission from Agence France Presse."[1] [2] It was also alleged that Google ignored a cease and desist order, though Google counters that it has opt-out procedures which AFP could have followed but did not. Google has since ceased aggregating AFP's stories.
from wiki

btw, i think you can always link to those news sites.
you cant display their news as your own. but you can list that such a news has come on xyz.com site.

I think that just works like a simple news search. I mean google only redirects you to the original site where the news is posted. So google is doing them good by sending traffic to their site. So i dont see why anybody should be worried abt that.
