How do other sites Import address from Our Yahoo & Google ID?

I have seen in many sites like www.tagged.com & birthplace.com
Many times i get invite from many of my frnds to join this
& if I join
than they ask me to add my yahoo ID & yahoo password & same for gmail
to import address from my Yahoo & Gmail ID
Also if I put my ID & Pass they sucessfully import my addresses
I want to know how do they do it........?
Is this legal?
& Is this safe to put ID & Pass to sites like tagged.com
If possible i want to know the script they uses can i view that script...

No, its not illegal but should be careful with such sites as chances are they can be phishing sites aswell. You might find the thing working at that time, but you never know....your login detalils may be saved for *other* purposes

Had it been Illegal, sites like Meebo importing contacts for chat would be down since ages
