Apologize for this long and well to some repetitive post. But I want a personalized PC suiting my needs and well as I have been somewhat out of sync with the new releases, I would really like your suggestions.

Thanking you guys in advance.

1. What is the purpose of the computer? (Note: If you are planning to say multimedia, you will have to be more specific as all types of systems are capable of doing that)
A: HD Movies, Excel, Internet, Music

2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products giving similar better performance but offering more VFM/ sellers? If not- why?
A: Yes.

3. What is your MAX budget?
A: 30,000. Would like to go lower, but this is the max. Please keep it as low as possible.

4. Planning to overclock?
A: No.

5. Which OS are you planning to use?
A: Windows 7 and Ubuntu.

6. How much hard drive space is needed?
A: 500GB minimum.

7. What resolution will the screen run at & whats the size of the screen you want?
A: Full HD. Looking at 22” if it fits the budget.

8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10? (1 being the lowest, 5 being you are somewhat in sync with the current performers and 10 being the highest)
A: 7/10

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
A: I will be assembling it.

10. When are you planning to buy the system?
A: Mid - October.

11. Are you one of the types looking out for "future proof" configurations?
A: Not exactly. Though won’t upgrade for another 3 years or so.

12. Are there going to be any components that you don't want to include in this new rig? If yes, do mention.
A: A-Z. Need Everything.

13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states?
A: No. Components should be locally available in Ahmedabad.

14. Mention any other points if deemed necessary
A: I’ll list them out here. Note : Very important.

1. It’s a home PC so it should be energy efficient, quiet. Small form factor, slim tower(Not necessary) would be preferred but not at the cost of upgradability.Should be good looking.

2. Want a discrete graphics card so that I can play some casual games.

3. The picture quality of the LCD should be good.

4. Need a wireless keyboard and mouse.

5. Strictly decent speaker set-up(meant not too expensive, but don’t want Intex either).

NOTE : I want the components that are known for it’s reliability, coz I won’t be there at home, and I don’t want components to start failing as my parents and sister will be using it as they won’t be able to run around for a replacement. Heck they won’t even what went wrong.

AMD Athlon II X4 630 - 4.4k
Gigabyte GA 880GM UD2H - 4.4k/ MSI 880GMA E45 - 5.8k
2 GB DDR3 RAM (corsair/kingston) - 2.3k
FSP Saga II 350w - 1.5k
CM Elite 310 Cabinet - 1.5k
WD green/Seagate/Samsung spinpoint F3 1 TB - 3k
DVD RW - 1k
BenQ 22" Full HD - 7.5k
Logitech 2.1 Speaker Z103 - 1.3k
Logitech CL MK320 Desktop - 1.5k

Total 28.4k with gigabyte mobo, 29.8k with MSI mobo. MSI mobo has USB 3.0 which might come in handy.

I have suggested wireless keyboard mouse as they can be used like a remote control which I think is important while watching movies (coz people may want to sit a bit farther than the wire would allow).
For a PC which has HD movies as its primary use, I'd like to suggest a 24" monitor and a 5.1 Speaker system. However, your budget is not allowing for any of these. But if you want a 24" screen, get the gigabyte mobo, reduce processor to AMD Athlon II X3 445 and get one. it will still overshoot your max budget by a couple of thousands.

Sorry, I missed some parts of your question. I think your budget falls a bit short for a discreet graphics card and a good HTPC setup. A good gaming PC will make a good HTPC, but as far as your budget is concerned, you need to raise it a bit to get a good PC for gaming as well as HTPC.
The config I gave you will make a very good PC for HTPC as the IGP has enough power to run them smoothly. But you won't be able to play games on this, maybe 2 year old games will work.

24” will be too big for me...and yeah 2 year old games are fine by me..can u plz specify the model number of the Display?? And no need for a GPU...so that leaves me down with two things now...

1. The Display comes bundled with a HDMI cable? G2220 is not listed on the BenQ site but the E2220, and recalling they have the same specs...are they priced the same?? One last thing...1080p, can it be seen through the DVI-D cable, or is the HDMI cable necessary??

2. Just checked the Gigabyte doesn’t have USB 3.0, has it come in any value mobo’s yet?? Would surely like it though..

3. Also need a PCI WiFi card to reduce cable clutter. Please suggest one.

G2220HD have no support for HDMI. only E2220HD have but don't come with a cable. also if you go for speaker, whats the use of HDMI?

G2220HD ---> 7-7.5k
E2220HD ---> ~9k.

ofcourse can be seen through DVI-D cable. HDMI is just a mean of squeezing in the audio into the DVI-D cable.

the one with the "A" suffix have it. alternately go for the MSI board as both price almost same.

As sam said, both DVI & HDMI are basically same. So don't waste money for HDMI support, look for DVI. go for the MSI mobo if you want DDR3.

I'd still suggest you consider a 24" screen if you would watch a lot of movies and those are going to be Full HD.

yeah, actually the gigabyte one seems better. But I bet gigabyte would be pricier in the market.
24" & 22" will have the same resolution, the price difference is considerable, I agree. But I'm suggesting it for 2 reasons, one coz a 22" full HD screen makes text look too small and two coz he mentioned full HD movies as his primary usage.

Is the S2409W from Dell still available in the market? Or is the ST2410 the only way to go?

What is the price for the Dell ones? I could only find prices that were two years old..
