Right off the assembly line
I own a comp fitted with an amd athlon xp processor of 1.66gig,
asus a7n series motherboard.
I was very much eager to install linux into my comp.
I tried linspire ,but it can't be installed on to hard disk.
I finally found ubuntu linux on digit dvd of dec2004 with a caption of more than 1000 softwares.
So i burnt the iso file on a disc and started installation.
Every thing was going fine.
It detected my hardwares, it detected no network settings.
Then I gave it a fat32 partition of 7Gb sace to sit.
Designated it as root(/).
It began to get installed.
A window opened saying "installing the ubuntu base system ,validting"
It halted at 22% witha error" debootstrap progrm exited with a error
(return value 1).
"check /var/log /messages."
The only option that was workin in the installer was "abort installation and reboot" ,which when opened gave caution that system will be in a unstable state, which is now true.
I also checked cd's integrity and found no problem.

Now I can't complete installation and reboot into my old oses!!
When rebooted from hard disk it says "press a key to reboot"
please help me!

Which other OS was installed in the hard disk? If you want to rescue your (say) windows XP master boot record, then see this.

If you have an existing linux OS installed, check the Linux Tips & Tricks thread in the Open Source section for info.
