there is no problem with the cooling.

I'm sure of that.

I think it is a software error (virus or something) as when I formatted my system (3 out of 4 drives) I was able to work on the comp without any error for some time. The degradatrion began soon.
Now the problem is thaty the PC hangs even before it completely loads windows.
I tried scanning the pc with the latest definitions of NAV but in vain.
Any other suggestions.?

Ckeck following one by one.

IDE cable connection at HDD and DVD-Combo end.
IDE cable connection at motherboard end.
Do through scandisk on ur HDD on all drives.
Try chnanging IDE cable

How to do through scandisk
Do do through scandisk, i prefer using scandisk in pure dos mode.
If u don't have win98, then get a floppy disk, make it 98 bootable. copy scandisk.exe from win98 to it.

boot in dos and run
Code:
scandisk /all /surface
