Right off the assembly line
I recently bought a dell laptop. It had Ubuntu pre installed on it. I want to install Windows 7.?
The problem is that the hard disc is divided into only one volume C: which has 440 GB of free space. The volume type is linux 0x86. now When i try to install using windows 7 cd. it doesnt identify this partition. Please help. I tried to convert the volume to NTFS using disk utility, but there was an error saying "no response". Is there any way by which i can convert the free space into a new volume?

Put the Windows Dvd in. Run setup. Follow the instructions. Then in the screen where you have to choose the partition just delete the partition. Highlight it and a delete option should be there. Delete it. If you have data on it just back up. And then you should be able to install.

@OP, use some partition manager to delete the current partition. get ultimate boot CD, boot from it, it has lots of partition tools. Use either of them to delete all the existing partitions.

Next use the Windows 7 installation media to boot and proceed with the steps.
