Help! Monitor dims and goes blank

Monitor ( Viewsonic VX 1940 ) suddenly got dim and after 3-5 seconds went blank, the power light remains on. Switching monitor off and on makes it come back but again after 3-5 seconds goes blank.

Problem with the display cable/port. Change it.

^^ Do as said above. Also try re-seating the RAM.

Tried another dvi cable, another port, Dsub cable, still same problem

Monitor also makes a mild screeching noise.

^Most probably bad monitor.Might want to try with another monitor to be sure.

Ok. Then your monitor have gone bad. Either RMA it or buy a new one.
