first ignore my bad English.

me and my 3 friends wanna connect our PCs Via D-Link Switcher we connected our Pcs with CAT-5 Cable.

the cable lengths are.

From Switch to me 10mtrs.
from Switch to my 1st friend 35 mtrs.
from Switch to my 2st friend 45 mtrs.
from Switch to my 3st friend 40 mtrs.

me and my 1st friend made home network and its all fine. but 3rd friend is also showing connected but not pinging to us. and 2nd friend it showing unplugged(we chcked the cable, cable is fine).

why we are loosing connectivity? because of long distance? we are using simple CAT-5 Cable can Fiber Optic Cable Help us?

or is there is any kind of hardware in market that can be use like a booster?

please guys help..:???:

First of all does your computer have two network cards? Else you need to change the ip of your computer to 192.168.1.2 and not 192.168.1.1 which should be the address of your router.

Router - 192.168.1.1
Comp1 - 192.168.1.2
Comp2 - 192.168.1.3
Comp3 - 192.168.1.4
Comp4 - 192.168.1.5

Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS You can leave it blank unless you would like to use OpenDNS or soemthing of the sort.

Anyway I have my computers set like shown above and they work fine. Also make sure the network cards are working for your friends especially if they havent been used in a while. You could have one of them bring over their CPU and test it out I guess. I don't believe its the cable.

Hope this helps.

Router Ip? is it automatic? or i can assign it manually.

1 more question what is the difference between simple cable and fiber optic cable?

Yes you can assign it manually. The procedure varies per Router .

First of all you don't use fibre optics for home networking. however the differences are quite documented in any book about networking. Main differences are cost and bandwidth I guess. Then of course complexity of installation.

Indeed it is. I don't recall referring to my avatar. If you like specifics its an Alpaca.

I don't really understand what you are being uptight about :s . Neither did I imply you were a kid or were negative about anything.
