hi guys

need your help in buying a laptop. need the suggestion for a model

need to have an ATi or a nVIDIA graphics card for occasional gaming like.
Should withstand rough use( i will use the laptop for around 15-18 hours per day)
OS not really necessary as I plan to use Karmic.

I know that a desktop would be better for me, but i travel a lot.

You haven't given a budget.
Check out Dell's laptops from the Dell website. You can customize the laptop as you require it to suit your budget and requirements.
If you want one specifically for travelling, try a 13" screen, otherwise 15" should do.

sorry bout that guys.
my budget is around 50k
had a hp pavilion dv2855. worked perfectly for 1.5 years. extremely rough usage. used to get heated up pretty bad. motherboard fried now. 5 days out of extended warranty.

the thing is that as i said i will use the laptop for around 15-18 hours a day and do a spot of gaming too and really dont want to get the motherboard fried again due to excess heat production.

HP has been having that problem a lot. 2 of my friends had the same problem. Now the warranty ios over and HP is asking for about 27k to replace motherboard.

Try the Dell Inspiron15 or studio series. Customize it to your need. I think it comes with a gaphics card, or you can add one.

In fact, just go to the Dell website and take your pick in your budget range. You are sure to find the configuration you desire in your budget.

In my experience, Dell offers the best value for money in terms of configuration. Also, support is very good.

My friend's 6 cell battery gave up so they gave a 9cell free.

Sony is highly overpriced.

1) Get Dell Studio 15
2) Buy one laptop cooling pad which costs around 1.5k-2k (cooler master) and saves 30k-50 down the line :)

I second that, 3 of my friends have this laptop running Windows 7. No problems whatsoever. Awesome gaming performance for the price (45-47k).

thank you for the suggestions guys.

btw isnt the HP dv6-2005ax having an AMD processor? doesnt that heat up a lot?

also i had gone to a local shop to ask about the studio 15 and he was telling me to go for the hp probook after i told him that i use the laptop a lot. that apparently had a 512 mb ati dedicated grahics. dont remember the chipset though.

also went to the dell site and wanted to know the difference between a studio 15 and say a vostro or inspiron which have been configured to my needs.. the other 2 are cheaper for the same config i think.

Had you mentioned the budget, it would have been easier for us. But as far as rough use is concerned, DELL scores far better as compared to others, even HP, for instance................., as far as my own experience is concerned. But for that, I would suggest you to get studio laptops. Inspirons are cheaper but studios are of better quality than the formers, and I hope, will be able to withstand rough use persistently.....:cool:
