Right off the assembly line
Hello everyone,

I am configuring a new machine.. which I would be buying sometime around second week of june from Nehru Place…

I would be using this for occasional gaming, development and graphics realated applications…..

Here is the list.. which I have prepared with the help of already available discussions on this forum… so here is the list…

AMD Athlon II X4 Quad X4 - 630 --------4647
Asus M4A78STD-V-EVO ---------------------6500
2 GB DDR3 ----------------------------------------2547
Samsung 23" P2350 LCD -----------------10800
WD 1 TB -------------------------------------------3542
Samsung DVD-Writer 22xD ---------------1023
Creative Inspire 2.1 T3130 ----------------1752
LOGITECH COMBO BCO KIT --------------619
Microtek 800VA ---------------------------------2333
HP Deskjet F4488 All-in-One Printer --3424
T.V TUNER (INTERNAL) ----------------------600
wireless router N150 ------------------------1895
Logitech Dual Action Gamepad -------1100
Cabinet - NZXT Gamma -------------------2000
PSU - FSP Saga II 400W ------------------2000
Total ----------------------------------------------44782
44782
Please have a look on the components and the prices (according to my knowledge)….

My budget was ~ Rs.40k.. which has already been crossed… that is the reason why I’m delaying an extra 2GB memory and graphics card… :-|

Please give your comments on..
1) if I should consider some other component…
2) if prices are different..
3) or anything related…

that was about the hardware…
I also need some suggestion on the operating system…

Currently, I am using windows 7 (32 bit) on my dell 1420…
But with this new machine I’m planning to move ahead with win 7, 64 bit version…
I have already used vista 64 bit.. and didn’t find any problem…
That time I didn’t do any gaming on that machine… so my question is how good or bad 32 bit games run on 64 bit win 7….

Waiting for your comments…. :-o
Rajat.

i have heard that 32 bit games run with lower FPS on 64 bit OS...
if this is correct .... generally how much drop we see in %..?

and yes, i would definitely buy an extra 2GB...but after couple of months....

i have not searched the market as such...
but have seen this price somewhere on the internet itself...
2.6k is definitely high... doesn't SMC quote higher than other shops???

right..!

ok. X4 is good.
:)

get something like Biostar TA785G3 HD @ 4.1k
it does not have 128MB GDDR3 sideport memory as the ASUS one...
don't u think this would matter performance wise...?
what about MSI 785GM-E65?
i think this is also a good choice... and i saw it somewhere priced at ~4k....

stick to 2Gb for now.
:)

get 20" or 22" from Benq & save 3k min.
i will be using this for HD movies watching, so this I prefer not to touch...

get 500Gb for now.
man.. i already got more than 500gb of stuff (movies, HD videos)...
better no to do anything here...

why not APC 550VA? 1.8k or so.
with that suffice for my machine?
in that case i would chose APC... :-o

get this one later.
can do that....

nice choice if u can find.

stick to this PSU. good one.
thanks to you guyz...

now with the saved money, get HD4670 or try get HD5670 512Mb. pc will be in balance & all your apps will be good to run.
i'm planning to spend ~10k on the graphics... so it's better to wait some more time...

just now i was looking at the HD HD5670 card.... sweet...
how much does it cost (and which manufacturer)....?

thanks,
rajat.

Alive Again...
nice rig found no problem
1) but for tv tuner get a good branded one like Pinnacle
2) 2GB RAM Ok...... but get 4GB RAM (either now or in future no problem)
3) for budget issue u can purchase later extra components likes gamepad, printer
4) if i was purchasing new system i will go for wireless keyboard mouse(any Microsoft, Logitech or Iball) @ Rs. 1400/-

if u not know, Asus quality in the budget motherboard section coming down. so better stay away from Asus when they look good at first sight.

Biostar TA785G3 HD got 128Mb DDR3 Samsung memory onboard. so no problem on that side. moreover the sideport memory does help. it boost performance by 5-8%, provided you OC the IGP. but if you planning game on 22-23" with IGP, sideport or no-sideport. game will SUCK.

MSI 785GM E65 is another good & solid board. both support processor upto 140W. so go for whichever you like. MSI will usually cost 1.5k more.

i will be using this for HD movies watching, so this I prefer not to touch...

than forget gaming for now. IGP & 23" won't run same time. if you try gaming. it'll spoil your day.

man.. i already got more than 500gb of stuff (movies, HD videos)...
better no to do anything here...

than settle for 1Tb Green from Western Digital.

with that suffice for my machine?
in that case i would chose APC... :-o

you mentioned about some 10k card. so get a UPS accordingly if you got something like HD5770 in your upgrade roadmap.

i'm planning to spend ~10k on the graphics... so it's better to wait some more time...

if able get Sapphire or PowerColor or MSI. these manufacturers give out 512Mb version of HD5670 & with custom cooler (2 slot occupying) & so the GPU runs really cool. also got OC potential. get 512Mb version. 1Gb version a waste. too much memory, too less muscle to use.

now decide, whether you want get the card now or wait. waiting will bring the price of card to 8k or so. for HD5770.

thanks satyamy....

1) you are right.. for TV tuner card, i should go for better options...
here is one question.... does anybody know any TV tuner card (available in local market) which works on Linux too...
because i use kubuntu as my default OS....

3) i can delay printer purchase... :)

4) wireless peripherals would not be as much of the use, in my case...and also the changing batteries....no.. :)

alright then, i better chose MSI or Biostar

i was searching, why Biostar is so cheaper than MSI.. and found that it doesn't have solid capacitor....
what could be the cost of it?
anyways, i think Biostar has got everything i need.. so this would be my first choice now... :)

but if you planning game on 22-23" with IGP, sideport or no-sideport. game will SUCK.
than forget gaming for now. IGP & 23" won't run same time. if you try gaming. it'll spoil your day.
even if i play the games on low resolution? (please excuse my naiveness)

than settle for 1Tb Green from Western Digital.

i was looking at some of the options.. and i like 5750, 1Gb...seems VFM and sufficient to my needs...

thanks for suggesions,
rajat.

solid caps limited to processor area only. cost 4-4.2k

even if i play the games on low resolution? (please excuse my naiveness)

at low or mid resolution, games will run. but just it'll look ugly.

how much should i go for?
1k?

APC 650VA is best, provided you don't try Crossfire or end up getting a HD5870

i was looking at some of the options.. and i like 5750, 1Gb...seems VFM and sufficient to my needs...

try get the cheapest HD5770. cause HD6760 price still same but HD5770 price coming down.
