Hi guys..

I don't rmember if I had posted this !

The problem is that I have win XP runinng on a 1.4 ghz machine . And whenever I leave the computer idle for few minz.. there is lots of Hd activities.. I looked for virus (not found) , look for spyware, looked registry, checked the process.. also checked if antivirus is on its work.. but not.. (I have AVG free running).

Earlier it was when I leave the computer and internet is connected but now whenever i leave the computer untoched for few minz.. then there are hd activities.. I am really irritated.. I don't want my HD to develop bad sectors so fast .. (if activities remains same then it can lead to bad sectors so early). SO So..

Any solution .. any idea where to look..
I am happy to provide more info as needed !

This is because the XP makes a database of your HDD whenever the computer is in the idle mode. This feature in xp is for fast searching of your files and folders. Download the tweak ui power toy, in that there is the option to turn off or on this feature.

well go to start->run->services.msc ..look for indexing service and disable it..also go to power options and click shutdown HDD after X min of Idle Time...

if u have ntfs partition

then go to windwos explorer

right clickon the drive

and uncheck the "allow indexing service to index this disk for fast file searching"

Indexing is disable now.. let see if it works.. currently i m going to sit on computer for few hrs .

BTW. I thnk its not defragmentation as I checked the hds fragmentation status and it is untouched at all.
