i'm using samsung 40 GB HDD [7200 rpm]
It's almost full [34 GB] ...I can't boot my system

It's not working...& displaying error: pri master S.M.A.R.T disabled....something like
this.. & just the system HANGS...ALL THIS HAPPENS BEFORE BOOTING
HDD is identified in BIOS.When connected to another system...partitions are not displayed...but the hdd is identified in Device Manager.

what's the problem with my hdd? I tried Disk Manager to scan for badsectors & foramtting ..but it's of no use...

The local technician says that data is present...but it's not identified.

Can we recover data from this hdd? Will any chip level servicing personnel can recover this data?

The data to be recovered is: images, audio [wma files],videos[.wmv,.mpeg],.exe files, browser favorites.

What about the cost & time to recover about 14 GB of data?

If anyone knows such persons/companies in hyderabad(india) plz inform me...

If i send the hdd to samsung customer service center....will they repair it & send it taking some money ....(but the warranty period is over)

Which is better....sending it customer service center or to data recovery personnel or using a latest data recovery tool?

Plz reply...

Thanks.

All of u plz remember...that i'm unable to boot into any one of the OS (98/XP)..

Let me make it clear for you:)

After switching on my system, there is a message displayed "pri master S.M.A.R.T ......failed Press f4" ...something like this...i couldn't remember exactly.:(

After pressing f4,another message "Disk Boot Failure" is displayed...
Options such as abort, retry, cancel are displayed ...and the system doesn't respond.:(

Try booting by using bootable XP CD. See whether it can recognise the HDD.

No...after inserting xp bootable cd, it shows disk boot failure message
