You can enable or disable SMART monitoring in BIOS.

It depends. Most of the motherboards have the SMART enable/disable option on the main page itself. It might even be labelled (SMART) HDD/Hard Disk Monitoring or something like that.

i dont think disabling the S.M.A.R.T feature will stop it from booting up....

If so then there seems to be some problem with ur BIOS or ur Hard Drive.
try these followings :

1.reset the bios to default settings.
2.try to reset the BIOS by changing a jumper setting on ur motherboard(if available on ur motherboard) *
3.remove the System battery and short the two ends of the batterry holder on the motherboard for more than 3 seconds *

*these settings r to be done wen power is OFF.

Warning!!!!....this solutions could harm ur system if ur not familiar enough with the hardware.....BEWARE!!!
contact a qualified Engg Instead.
