I am facing a strange problem of my second HDD which is 160GB PATA, getting undetected by my computer after I successfully boot it. I am using Asus M2A-VM motherboard. I first thought that the problem may be with my data cable. So I changed it. But this problem reappeared after some days. Even DVD-Writer is also getting this problem. My first HDD which is 160GB SATA is not showing this problem.

Some times this problem appears even after 2-3 hours of use and sometimes just after the computer boots completes. Even the BISO screen does not show HDD. I need to remove all the power and data cables and reconnect them. Why this may be happening? Is there any problem with motherboard? Please help me.

I got BSOD when I use my IDE HDDs on my Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R Board.Moment I use my SATA HDDs I get no errors and PC works well.
I do not have any problems with Sony DVD Writer.

When I checked with Gigabyte Website, they had this to say.

Thanks for you replies. But this motherboard is new. I tried all things such as
1) clean all the dust from inside of the box.
2) change the IDE cable.
3) check for the jumper settings.
But the problem remains. May be the problem is related to some faulty BIOS upgrade. I have 3 months ago upgraded the BIOS.
But everything else is working fine. I will still try to do all the things mentioned here.
But the main problem is the unpredictable occurance of the problem. It may happen anytime. I will try to find the exact way to reproduce the problem. And reply with the result.
One thing I have set the BIOS setting to let SATA drives to be reported as PATA to OS. Does this have anything to do with this?
Thanks again.

since u suspect that the prob cud be bios related, then either update bios if any update is available or revert back to a older bios version for testing.
