Green pixels on laptop screen

Hi,

Since past few weeks, some random green pixels started appearing on the screen of my laptop (config mentioned in signature below).
Their timing was random & not predictable.
One restart & they were gone.

Then later on, the screen started blacking out randomly after green pixels started showing.
And after that windows showed an error "Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered.".
Again, one restart & they were gone.

But since past past 5-7 days, they have become frequent.

And now since 2 days, many times I can't even boot into Windows because these small blocks show up right before that Welcome/Sign-in screen.

Right now too I've booted in safe mode & posting this thread.

Troubleshooting:
  • Tried uninstalling ATI drivers 12.8.
  • Tried installing old ATI drivers 11.8, 11.12, 12.2.
Worked for a few hours, then same problem.
  • Tried installing latest drivers 12.10.
    Not working.
  • Uninstalled all leftover old graphics drivers through Device Manager itself (Uninstall->Delete the driver software for this device).
    Not working.

Kindly help.

Download Driver Sweeper and delete any remaining display drivers. Then go to Laprop manufacturers website and download drivers from there and do a clean install and see if it helps :)

I forgot to mention earlier that I have also been lately getting BSOD's that "Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed".
STOP: 0x00000116 (0x...............)
It point to "atikmpag.sys" file
This mostly occurs when Windows is booting.

Well today this morning, a noticed a new thing.
Right upon CMOS/BIOS boot where hardware test is done, some red & green lines started showing up & then were gone.
Earlier it looked like a driver problem.
But now it seems that there is some problem with either the power supply or with the GPU instead.
What do u suggest?

Clearly seems like a driver issue IMO. If the method I told you to try in the above post doesn't work will recommend you to take laptop to authorised service centre.

But those red & green lines showed up today right when the system is powered on.
You know when that system manufacturer's logo (in my case DELL) is shown, that's where those lines showed up.
IMO no drivers are used then.

I have also tried rolling back to drivers that came with the laptop.
Still facing the issue.

This time too I'm posting this reply in safe mode.

First I thought it might be an overheating issue.
But I turned on the laptop this morning when it had been off overnight.
And those dreaded lines showed up instantly.

I don't overclock either the GPU or CPU.
I'm using Belkin laptop cooling pad.

What do u suggest?

bump....

Update:
I updated my video card drivers through Windows Update.
Display seems to be stable now.

Did not use any driver cleaner.

Don't know what caused the problem to occur even though the above mentioned drivers had already been used for quite some time.

One thing I still don't understand is why red & green lines showed up upon system power-on if it was a Windows driver issue.

Latest Update:
Hmm...
Well it seems the problem has returned...
Seems like Microsoft drivers have also failed.
Again got the dreaded Windows errors & BSOD's today.

Will do a clean install of Windows now.
Let's see if it works.
