Recently, some ZoneAlarm users have reported getting a "Validation failed for VSINIT.DLL" message. Zone Labs has determined that computers suffering this error are missing a root certificate.
A root certificate is a system file from a trusted source, such as Verisign. It is used as the last link in an authentication chain to verify that a program is valid. Normally, programs are validated only when they are downloaded onto your PC. For additional security, ZoneAlarm has Windows validate its program files every time they are run.
Zone Labs suspects the missing root certificate is the handiwork of a malicious program.
