HD 4850 CF churn 36.4 on 1920*1200....vhigh
and HD 4850 CF costs less than 20k now.
9800GX2 costs 30k+ and churns 39.9fps, just 3.5fps ahead of the 20k CF.
U can get 40~45fps avg @ 1680*1050 for any of these configs in Crysis. Or the HD 4870 X2 will just spoil everythin else. 9800GX2 is bit faster than it...only in Crysis. Have a look at other games, 9800GX2 comes nowhere near 4850 CF or HD 4870 X2.
also the 4870 X2 boasts that it dun micro-stutter as other multi GPU setup does even if the fps is way above normal.
You check the same link you provided. It has fps @ 16080*1050 too. For convenience, I am posting them here-
1. 9800gx2 - 48.8 (25.44% faster than 4870x2)
2. 8800gt SLI -46.1 (18.5% faster than 4870x2)
3. 4870x2- 38.9
4. 4870 - 35.6
4870x2 maybe giving awesome framerate in games which are already playable at highest settings in nvidia cards. Crysis is the most demanding game and it is unable to handle it well although its better than 38xx series. When I buy cards I see the number games I can play smoothly and not framerates. With 4870x2 I will be unable to play crysis smoothly.
Also note that anandtech didn't use all very high settings.
So 4870x2 will be worth buying if it costs less than 9800gx2 in India or if you don't care about crysis. When 30k is spent, the card should be worth it and should give acceptable performance in all games. Giving ownage fps in one and poor fps in other game destroys the vfm.
There is still hope for 4870x2 though. Looking at the 9.3% scaling of 4870, we can say there is huge room for improvement. AMD during 38xx days, kept improving fps in games in which it already had won and didn't care about the games in which it sucked very bad. Hopefully, they won't repeat those defensive tactics and go for an all out kill in all games.
