I have 8k in my pocket right now. My system is in my signature. I want to upgrade some parts of pc. So that i can get a good gaming experience.
I have this mobo, which has a 4x pcie slot. I wanted to buy a 8600gt but then i realised that i won't get the full performance. So i have decided to change my motherboard. As i needed to upgrade my ram to 1gb. But ddr is past and it costs very high so i'll need to buy new ram too. I am satisfied with the processor. Please tell me how much cash will i need? And please name the components that i should replace.
Please don't neglect the old parts. How much will i get from the shopkeeper for these parts?

945/946 based mobo abt 3 - 3.5k
1 gb ram for Rs. 1500.
7300 GS abt 3k.

if u can extend ur budget by selling the old stuff then atleast try to get a 8500GT (minimum).

I have 8k. I can add some more cash after selling the older parts. How much do u think will i get?

No matter what happens, i will buy 8600gt as the graphics card. Just tell me how much more cash will i need. I want the motherboard to support the latest dual core processors, in case i need to upgrade the processor after 1 or 2 yrs.

And how is he supposed to run 8600GT on a amotherboard with just 4x PCI-e slot??

IMO,get a motherboard with 16x PCI-e slot.Should be around 3k.Then you can get a 1gb DDR RAM for about 2.3k.That leaves you with about 3000 rs.I don't think you will be getting 8600GT in that much.Maybe a 8400GS....

he can get a mobo supporting ddr2+16xpcie for 3-4k so 2gb RA will cost him just 2.5k.Enjoy.But I agrre he must upgrade his mobo first no doubt about it.

a 8600GT on a pci-e 4x slot will perform better than a 8400GS running in a pci-e 16x slot.:D

First i just want the mobo + ram. otherboard must support ddr2 ram. I am planning to get 2 sticks of 1gb ram ddr2 ram in dual channel mode.

Why u ppl are neglecting the money that i should get from selling the older parts? Just tell me how much money will i get? So i'll wait for some time till i get enough money to buy a 8600 gt.

But the main thing right now is mobo+ram.

i suppose at max u will get 2k. for ur Mobo, ram and gfx card.

so for 10k. i suggest u go for atleast half decent mobo like 650i ultra abt 5.5. and an el cheapo gfx card of abt 3k (for now) wt 1 gb ram 1.4.

cos if u go for 945/946 based mobo then ur future upgrade options will be limited.

Is the xfx 650i motherboard available in the north india? I am in patiala (punjab). I don't think xfx deals here. May be i can get it from chandigarh.
Doe anybody know about this??

So now
xfx 650i mobo- 5.5 k
2x 1gb ram in dual channel-2.8 ( may be i'll settle for 1gb and get more after some time)
Money left 1.7k. ( i'll again start collecting)

By the way how much ram does this mobo support?
And i have read that this motherboard is excellent for overclocking. How much will i get with my p4?

moshel

hmm.i hope you have probably read that this mobo doesnt have onboard video. so u will need to buy a gfx card. so i dont suppose 1.7k wud suffice.

thats why i suggested that u go for 1 gb ram right now. and the remaining 1.4K add to 1.7k and for 3.1 k and then little bit collecting...look for a gfx card once again i stress atleast 8500GT.

btw if u dont get XFX, then try to find with the name "650i ultra" there must be some other brand too selling it.

Ok. Thanks. I knew that this mobo doesn't have onboard. So i'll try to get something. Thanks for ur help.

By the way can anyone please tell me. How much less fps will i get if i plug a
ASUS EN8600GT in my current motherboard?
This question is very important. It can effect my whole upgrade.
And how much 1 GB DDR400 RAM costs?

dont get asus brand of 8600GT. i have Asus 8500GT and there is a very odd problem, that the drivers released by Nvidia which also come every month with DIGIT wont work. u will need to download from the Asus site only. and the download is very huge..

i dont knw if XFX or some other brand has this problem or not. but it is for sure in Asus.

Your current motherboard does support 16x PCI express!!!!

For proof, look here: *www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=775Dual-915GL

So no need to change your mobo.

dude . for the money u have , keep the proccy and mobo same . add ram .

lets see.
8600GT - 6.2k ( get it from xfx )
2 x 1 gb ddr400 < 3k
total around or less than 9k . see ur existing 512mb for 500 bucks . . .

Reasons for my suggestion
if u buy a new mobo , u dont have enough money to buy a C2D and p4 OC's very badly . maybe u can raise to 3.2 or 3.3 GHZ with xfx 650i and in 2yrs xfx 650i mobo will be outdated and new proccy's wont support that mobo . so no point in going for a new mobo and old proccy .

for ur question abt how much performance u loose . man u're lazy , i told u to search .
here's teh link.

Conclusion : Loss of performance depends on application and card.
geforce 8600GT is noway near 8800GTS used and the former it 128bit . so not much of performance loss as in 8800GTS .

If u still want to buy the new mobo , get a d945 .

U ppl are very helpful. Thanks a lot.
As for the guy who told me not to buy a ASUS. I read in digit that the
ASUS EN8600GT was the best performing card in the shootout. It even crossed the 8600GTS cards. So i don't think i should buy a XFX. I'll look for the asus card in chandigarh.
Then i will buy 2 x 1GB RAM in dual channel mode.

By the way i have a 400w PSU.

@Shloeb
are yaar, u can't plug da ard in ur current mobo. It has only PCIE4x slot which is not menat to plug in graphics cards.
Graphics cards can only be plugged into X16 PCIE slots which ur mobo dun haf.

So firstly u shud get a new mobo, then think bout gcards.
Dun get 650i ultra mobo, coz its of no use to overclock a p4. Only the heat will rise nd not much perfomance gain.

As far as gaming is considered, the GPU is da h/w which affect it mostly. So get a low end 945 mobo + a gud gcard.

I suggest:
945 mobo: 2.5k
1GB DDR2: 1.5k
8600GT : 6.2k
--------------------------------
i suggested this coz,
if u get 650i Ultra board, ull need a gud proccy to use it fully.
If u get a 650i ultra nd a gud proccy[C2D], then ull need a gud gcard to use it fully.
And for all that the budget wud hit 16~18k. So u can upgrade any one or two items now nd by da time u get the last part, h/w better than that will be released at lower cost nd won't be compatible with urs.
SO better idea is to get everythin now at da present budget nd enjoy till then. Due to da card[8600GT] u can still play all games for 2~3yrs.
