I am not an Owl
That statement assumes that people buy ONLY samsung handsets. IMO, the void created by samsung wouldve bbeen easily filled up with HTC and then Sony/LG. its not like HTC had bad handsets. Infact they had really impressive models that were eclipsed by the samsung's specmanship. I do not deny that samsung sells, but to infer that android sells only because of samsung is not true. If samsung stops making android handsets, then its samsung who has got most to lose. See how they did with bada? or now Tizen?
Android sells because its (it was) the poor man's alternative to IOS and not because samsung has the galaxy range of phones. It just happens that samsung makes the most impressively specced android phones and the laggy nature of android means people flock to the buy the highest specced phone. Also note that I do not mean to say that android wouldnt have been affected at all, just that the effect would've been insignificant wit other manufacturers filling the "void".
