@ray,you can achieve cool effects with imagemagick.for instance take a look at this

there are many other effects like the above one.

command for above effect is

convert -font <fontname> -pointsize <fontsize> -fill <text color> -caption "<text>" 
input.png -gravity center -background <background color> -bordercolor <border color> -polaroid <angle> output.png

Worked with it for a while before i decided it was easier to make a template then apply it using gimp.

wouldn't it be easier if one makes a bash script. gnome users can use it as nautilus script too.

Yeah, but it would'nt be as attractive as screens made through gimp/rumshot.
Btw, is it possible to overlap images using imagemagick?
I tried once, but ended up getting black images.
