I found this tool to be a great GUI enhancer without any hassles of digging from the developer perspective. After all we need easy life and why waste time in doing something which is less of a priority, at least for me. This tool is for Debian and Ubuntu. Though a similar tar.gz archive exists at *launchpad.net/gnome-color-chooser
NOTE: Ubuntu users please add this repo to the sources.list (/etc/apt/sources.list), but remove this line from the sources.list file after installing the gnome-color-chooser, as you dont want your Gutsy to be Hardy:
Yay for the Gnome Color Chooser
NOTE: I couldn't stick some emoticons as the bugger seem to have problem, it considers emoticons as images too and doesnt allow more than 15 images...lol

Code:
deb *fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hardy main universe
- Press Reload then Install Gnome Color Chooser from synaptic
- Open it from System > Preferences > GNOME Color Chooser
- Look at the icon text on desktop, they could be unreadable if the background image is light.
- Check the boxes corresponding to Icon Labels frame as shown below, now it looks good, u can set the custom color for icon texts and background and even the background opacity.
- This Selection Box looks more Vista-ish, so lets make it Debian-ish..lol
- Check the options under Slection Box , set custom color from color pallette, and opacity too (I like things transparent)
- This one is a performance feature, as per my experience, you can see pics beside text in any button, here "Close", "Apply" and "Help" have pics beside text, I want to get rid of them.
- To remove the icons beside texts check the deactivate (stock) icons checkbox under Buttons, as simple as it is
- This scrollbar bugs me with its current fatty width, I crave for slim beauties, so lets make it one
- Under Scrollbars check Width and Button Size, now ready for a date
- Here Menu Panel doesn't match with the rest of the mid segment theming
- I changed the Panel to Clearlooks engine
- Fugly Progress Bars, umm...lets change them too with an animated one
- I selected Clearlooks engine Progress Bars, but the animation is not there...huh
- Wait...it is there. Just Click on Preferences and select Style Glossy and check Animations check boxes
Yay for the Gnome Color Chooser
