Right off the assembly line
I am looking for an assembled computer. Mainly I will be doing programming e.g. Matlab, Java ..... so my requiremement is a high perfrmance computer....

so which components should I focus on....

I have heard that Intel P4 2.66 Ghz & Intel 3.0 Ghz HT don't have much difference in terms of performance even though there's a huge difference in price.

I should also look at RAM ... it should be 512 Mb or 1 Gb ...

what else should I look on?

Please do give review of the company's also when u tell abt the components.......

if u r NOT into gaming / graphical work then u dont require a high performance computer.

if u want to run java programs, matlab a celeron pc with 256 ram is sufficient . if u want to carry out Application server programming like EJB using Eclipse/Jidea Jboss -websphere then u need 512MB ram and a Simple P4 will be more than sufficient . but I dont know u r going to do college-assignments or industry level programming ....

in that case it would be better to go for 512 mb ram recomended 1 gb(gui version of java and matlab do take up a lot of mem) , intel p4 2.66 would easily do a gr8 job ...go for higher clk speed or a dual core only if the budget allows. u'll surely need a dvd rom so better get a dvd writter (the rate hav already come down quite a bit)...no need for a graphics card as no graphics editing or gaming is going to take palce. the on board video solution would surely do fine ... u can opt for a 915 series mobo.... if u can afford then go for 945...monitor 17 inces is a minimum .... working in matlab will be a pain in the *** if the monitor is less than 17". i hope u can figure out hdd on ur own...but my recomendatrion is the opt for sata.
i hope that solves your query..
happy computing

Well a p4 2.66 Ghz should suffice but i advise u to go for a 1Gb ram. MAtlab is a memory hogger. The rest depends on your needs and budget
