There are lot of free online storage services. Windows Live Skydrive offers around 25GB free storage. However I prefer Dropbox as it is available in multiple platforms desktop and mobile. Moreover you can expand your storage by referring others.

There is no online storage option with FTP for free. Guess no everything can be free. So Adrive should be good.
Using FTP is real good. I used g.ho.st for sometime, it provided free online storage with FTP. Very easy to backup and download, really fast. But then it shut down. Since then I am just thinking of uploading my important files somewhere, haven't uploaded a single byte

Skydrive and Google Docs are the best. There is no size limitation for uploads in Google Docs but Skydrive has a 50 mb limit per file. If you have file sizes less than that, go for it or else upgrade Google Docs from 1GB to 20GB for 5$ a year.
