Forgot administrator password in XP!Help

I created a limited user and an administrator in my win XP media centre edition.

I often use the limited user and now I forgot administrator password.

Is there any way to retrieve my password without reinstalling?

u can boot in safe mode and select administrator here enter the password which u had given during installtion and then create a new user.

You must always remember your passwords. Or if you are a person who forgets
things easily. Write it down it UserName & password in a separate notebook.
This is one habit that will help you always in life.

Even if you boot in safe mode the System will ask for adminstrator password, or
any user with administrative priviledges!! That means you can't login if you
provide the wrong password!!

tht's simple....in ur limited account i guess ur allowed to run command prompt..just type NET USER *admin...there u go now change admin password to whatever u like!!!

There are two types of admin i think. User level admin and system level. The system level can be accessed via Safe Mode usually or thro the boot disk. If you know the system level password, you can delete the user level admin account and create a new one.

The System level Admin can be accessed by pressing ctrl+alt+del twice during the graphical login screen .
The password field refers to what u type during mid installation . That s usually left blank in most cases

Had it been so easy XP wudhve flopped a long back.. if u login and try to do that net user administrator blabla it will gives error access denied. Speaking frankly if u forgot ur admin pass.. there are very little ways to get it back... try to use an md5 hash cracker on ur xp.. it will take long might eventually work.. I wud use l0pth crack for myself

man i didnt know admin passwords were so damn easy to recover(change)
this just dropped my faith in windows down to hell from where it was, at ground level(already was low).

though the question have been answered already i just wanna add something.

Google for hiren boot CD (not just for this.. but this is a real tool)

burn it in a disc and then boot from there there are so many programms and there is a program which can change the administrator's/user password.. damn easy

u said the problem has been solved.. cud u just list out all the steps u performed so that next time someone gets the same problem we can refer to this post
