1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: gaming all the latest titles,bf3,dirt3,farcry3,maxpayne3,arma3,firefall,cod,hitman5,tombraider,thedarkness,medal of honour,mass effect,assasin's creed,the witcher,batman,crysis,mafia,sleeping dogs,dead spacebioshock,darksiders,this is vegas,the sabotuer,dragon age,fallout,gta4...................also i would be doing some serious work using softwares like 3ds max,catia,autotech maya,cad...rest i'll watch movies of good quality.....

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans:75k max (if it increases a little i would be able to clear that)

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans:yes

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans:windows 7 64,windows xp

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans:1tb

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans:21.5

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans:i need to buy everything....

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans:as soon as i get a config

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans:assembler

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans:i live in guwahati but would be coming to kolkata so will buy there

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans:this is the base config that i have choosen so far

# Component Model Price
1 Processor AMD FX8350 Rs 12000
2 Motherboard ASUS CROSSHAIR V FORMULA (R.O.G) Rs 16500
3 RAM G.SKILL RAM RIPJAWS X 8GB DDR3 1600FSB Rs 3000
4 SDD NONE
5 HDD WD Caviar Green 1 TB Rs 4300
6 Optical Drive ASUS DVD RW Rs 1050
7 PSU CORSAIR SMPS-650TX Rs 5500

Although your post is quite clear to us, I suggest you fill up the *www.thinkdigit.com/forum/pc-compon...new-pc-help-answer-these-questions-first.html and post it here. There is no need to do it in another post, just edit the 1st post of yours with the questions answered and at the end mention the config you have decided till now.

is a ups really required i mean...if i don't buy it will it destroy my system..as far as i know failure due to surges are not covered in the warranties.......my area does have power surges but a lot of people do not use ups's.............if my system is not in trouble i would buy the 7970 instead of the 7950........

Ya, UPS is very much required. When your computer is in full load, like when you are playing games, applying a complex Filter over an image in PhotoShop or Encoding a Video using Handbrake, sudden power surge or Power cut can damage computer components like Motherboard, Graphics card, PSU, Ram etc. So a good UPS is always required. If you want to reduce the cost then at least opt for Microtech/Frontech or Zebronics 800VA or 1 KVA UPS which will be not more than 3.5K.

Actually even I was reluctant to buy the UPS first and used to think like you. But after a sudden power failure damaged one of my Graphics cards and the PSU (Damaging Corsair TX 850 is not a easy job), I got my APC UPS on that day. I was lucky as all the damaged components were under warranty and I got replacement for all of 'em.

this is exactly what i was talking about....i ain't no miser but in order to save a 5k....i don't want to loose a 22k(gpu).....

so going in for

Proccessor-Amd Fx 8350-Rs12000
Motherboard-Asus M5A97-Rs6600
Ram-G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3-2133 8 GB (2 x 4 GB)-Rs5300
HDD-WD Caviar Green 2 TB Desktop Internal Hard Drive (WD20EARX)-Rs5700
PSU-Corsair TX 650-Rs5500
Monitor-DELL S2240M VA Panel 22" 1080P LED-Rs9000
Keyboard&Mouse-logitech g400 +normal keyboard-Rs2000
Optical Drive-Asus-Rs1000
GPU-SAPPHIRE GRAPHIC CARD HD 7950 VAPOR-X OC WITH BOOST (this is not available so suggest a substitute)-Rs22000
UPS-APC 1.1 KVA Black-Rs5200

Total-Rs74300

for the cabinet i have shortlisted which one should i go for
1) corsair obsidian 650d
2) corsair 500r
3) cooler master haf 922

if its worth it i'll expand the budget and also correct existing flaws in my choosen rig

i would be buying a h100 in a few months

so i want the cabinet accordingly

budget is 6k but as i said i can expand

also i did a research and found the piledriver to respond good with 18 or 21 ram's...is it so or i go with 16oo???

get the corsair 400r its a great cabinet you can install upto 10 fans in it or 8 fans and the radiator on top of it.......with the saved money you can go for a gigabyte 990 fxa ud3 ......trust me you'll need it for overclocking....the board you'hv choosen is good but i'd suggest the ud3.....also you will notice any difference in the ram i'd advice you to get 1600 rams.......also if you want to reduce the budget you can go for the 7870 at 16.7k its not at all a push over later on you could crossfire

Regarding Ram, you don't need to spend 5.3K, trust me. AMD FX processors have a native support for 1866 MHz Ram and they respond very well with higher speed Rams which is proven by a Test conducted by Tomshardware. Now the standard G-Skill RipjawX 1600 MHz Rams can run at 1866 MHz speed when slightly overclocked, in fact I'm doing so (Check my Machine config in signature). So if you want to spend money, get 16GB 1600 MHz Ram @ 8GB X 2 configuration.

Get two of this Module: G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3 8 GB (1 x 8 GB) PC RAM (F3-12800CL10S-8GBXL) - G.Skill: Flipkart.com
