exactly what is volume licence?????

hi,
i just wanted to know exactly what is "Volume Licensing".

is it that, suppose i have 10 computers, for that i buy 1 volume licenced windows xp professional CD which can be installed in 10 computers rathere then purchasing 10 media CD seperately from retailers.

is my assumption correct??? i went trough the contents in the net in microsoft site but i cant exactly get the details as asked above.

can you help to clear me in this regard,pls

Volume licensing means the number of licenses(read pc/workstations) which you can use. If you buy one volume license, you can use the product on one machine only at a time.

Volume licence saves you from the trouble of taking care of multiple CDs! You are talking about 10 machines, imagine a company with 100 or even 500 machines! What do they do?

So this way you can take one set of CD and multiple licenses and install legal copies in all machines. Plus there are some discounts on volume licenses. You can enjoy that too

I think they are different. They ought to be. But I have never purchased OS like this in volume licence, so not too sure. Commone Sense suggests, they ought to be different
