Entry level gaming rig

Hi friends,
My friend is building an entry level gaming pc. He has decided to spend 7-8k for processor+gfx card.
His choices are
1. AMD A8-3870(only the inbuilt processor HD6550D)
2. AMD A6 3500(inbuilt HD 6530D)+Asus AMD/ATI Radeon HD 5450 1 GB DDR3
3. AMD A6 3500(inbuilt HD 6530D)+Sapphire AMD/ATI Radeon HD 6450 2 GB DDR3

His first choice is the 2nd one as its cost is less than the last. Please suggest about this and also if other options are available.
Also suggest some good psu.

by cpu what do you mean - your friend needs a processor only and gfx + PSu or he needs a motherboard+cpu+gfx card+psu and any other compnenets ??

also do quote the total max budget for everything and the second config is not a good one.

CPU is, I suppose, whole cabinet, mobo+procc+everything inside it. Processor is a single die, like a small chip.

CPU stands for Central Processing Unit ...... not Cabinet or PC.... so basically we should avoid calling all masala inside the Cabinet as CPU... :)
CPU is actually housed inside the microprocessor and consists of two main components which are ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit) and CU(Control Unit).

^^ What I meant was while speaking about computers in general (not in technical details such as microprocessors, ALU, CU, etc) we think of CPU and Processor as one and the same thing and not as the all things inside the cabinet. :) Like I said in my previous post if we divulge further into the architectures of say CPU or microprocessors... you'll end up wondering about why do we call this small black piece made up of silicon as processor which is basically just a metalloid. :)

Point is when we say CPU or Processor or Proccy its the same thing. e.g. i5 3570k, i3 2100, etc. And we should avoid calling all the things inside the cabinet as CPU.

^^ Boss,,, cant you take jokes lightly ? It was a just a joking question I askled since you were refering to whole componnents inside cabinet as CPU.
Dont take it to heart :)



And coming back to the topic... you still haven't answered Topgear's doubts :shock:

@OP:
Both HD5450 & HD6450 are HTPC cards, we cant expect much Gaming (even the entry-level) from these cards.
Go for X670 (where x = 5 or 6 ) series or above!

I must have confused Op's thread with some other thread hence the confusion but still there's many people who refers the entire pc ( except monitor and speakers ) ie cabby, mobo, psu, hdd, odd, proc as cpu ;-)

Now coming to the Op's query : if he ( his friend actually ) wants to use a gfx card with apu and wants to make a cf setup best would be to get a AMD A6 3500 along with HD6570 1GB DDr3 gfx card - this setup will cost him ~8k and for a good PSU look for Corsair VS450 @ 2.1k.
