I have two operating systems – windows ME and Windows XP on C: and D: drives respectively. Recently I reinstalled windows ME after formatting C: drive and replaced BOOT.INI file, which I have backed up before formatting c: drive but it not worked.
I have also used solution provide in June 2005 issue of Digit, but it displays a message “ NTLDR IS MISSING “during boot up. Now I am unable to boot even in windows ME. How I can get a dual boot option without reinstalling ME and XP.

1. Insert your XP CD and boot from it.

2. You'll see some files being copied, then you'll be presented with a choice of installing or repairing an existing installation. Choose Repair.

3. At the C:\Windows prompt, type FIXBOOT. You'll be prompted to confirm. Do so.

4. When FIXBOOT is finished, remove the XP CD and type EXIT and the machine will reboot.

5. Reconfigure your computer to boot from the hard drive if necessary.

You will now get the XP Boot loader with your choice of operating system
