Digi Cam - Nikon or Canon

Hello everybody,
I am looking to buy a original Digicam - confused in 2 brands - pls help me with telling good/bad sides of this 2 brand.
Nikon (Coolpix) or Canon (Powershot)

My budget is around 10k + 1Gb card
My requirments 6 - 8 MP with 3-6X Optical zoom.

Now Canons are with Alkaline Battery & Nikon may alkaline(AA size) or Chargable Ni-Hi Battery. Please suggest which are batter.

I have Chosen Canon A570 IS / A550
Nikon L5 / L11 / S50

You can suggest some other model also - but brand should be Nikon/Canon

Please suggest if you know
