Hello friends!

What is the difference between Norton Internet Security 2004, 2005 & 2006? If I install NIS 2004 and update it completely via Live Update, is it going to function in the way NIS 2005 or NIS 2006 would?

YEs, basically it will in all the FWall and AV basic funtions, I think the only addition in latest ones will be Anti-Spy and other product-integrated goods...

Suppose ifu have PIV computer then,

NAV2004 - your computer will behave as PIII
NAV2005 - your computer will behave as PII
NAV2006 - your computer will behave as PI

Yes if u update via live update then its enough for virus protection.NAV 2005 , 2006 will have much more functions like antispam,IM safe etc.. thats it.

i have been using NAV 2005 for about a year, & just now downloaded NAV 2006, i did not find any benifit with it, nothing compared to NAV 2005, same speed, same 22 MB memory usage with proper configurartion, if u got nav 2005 then stick to it, that what i would say

NAV 2004-detects 64000 malicious software and slows down your pc like all of em are on your HD

NAV 2005-detects 100000 maliciois software and crashes your pc that many times per month

NAV 2006-detects 300000 malicious software and ....um....no pc has been booted up to tell the side-effects.....

dont think im joking, its the reality

@rajas700-----its just a metaphor intended to signify that there is no basic difference except memory........

I marked a big difference between these softwares. Beforehand when I used to use NAV 2004, whenever I used to run live update, it used to just add the definations of the recent virus that Symantec released, but In NAV 2005, every time I run live update, the whole 8 to 9 MB virus definations are downloaded again.

Now I am not sure weather this is something changed by Symantec in all versions of their anti virus package or just with NAV 2005 & 2006.

@rajas700, its true that with the same configuration if u go on updating/installing newer versions, the minumun configuration goes on increasing with the same... like if u hav installed nero 6 it takes 80 MB for me during a burning process while nero 7 took me 260 MB for burning!!! and considerably the burning time in nero 6 was 7 mins while nero 7 took 13 mins!!! new versions demand more. u wudnt find the difference if either u keep on updating ur hardware to some extent or u already hav one latest config. p4 also means 1.4ghz and 3ghz after all!!

Norton Antivirus 2004 onwards is not very flexible. I find NAV2003 with updates gives the best performance. I use Microsoft Antispyware and ZoneAlarm and I'd like norton to stick with what it does best.

NAV2005 is so slow!! I havn't tried NAV2006 but I have a feeling it will be a lot of the same old crap. I'd recommend them only if you are not a power user.

Only Norton AntiVirus is good or use Norton System Works. Norton Internet Security is a big resource-hogger. It's firewall is not that good. Use
ZoneAlarm Pro , which is the best firewall available.
Of late Norton has acquired Sygate , the makers of
Sygate firewall!!
