Dell Laptop Advice

Jeet

Right off the assembly line
Hello Everyone,

I am new to this forum, but quite old to Digit  .

Recently I was planning to purchase a laptop for my college, I schemed out this configuration ( Price ~ 65k)

Processor: 2nd generation Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM processor 2.00 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 2.90 GHz
OS: Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit (English)
Display: 15.6" (39.6cm) FHD (1920x1080) B+RGLED display with TrueLife™
Memory: 6GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (1 x 2GB + 1 x 4GB)
Hard Drive: 500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
Optical Drive: Tray Load 8X DVD+/-RW Drive with DVD+R double layer write capability
GPU: 1GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 525M graphics with Optimus
Batteries: 6 Cell Primary Battery
WLAN Card: Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 1030 with Bluetooth v3.0+HS
Keyboard: Dell™ Backlit Keyboard (English)
Case: Targus NEW Entry Level Backpack 16"
Warranty: 2-year XPS Premier Service with 2-year CompleteCover

My primary usage will be programming, Matlab etc.

Have you guys any other suggestions for me? An I don't have any company preference, however an FullHD display and backlit keyboard is must for me.

Also does Dell offer any discount to students? If so how much? Any other form of discounts you know of?

Looking forward to your replies.

The graphics are almost useless. For that price you should better get i7-2630QM with GT540M/HD6650M minimum.

not sure what the price is but this one would be superb for your work:

You can also try macbook pro

It wouldn't suit my usage, is overpriced & under-powered. Not to mention few specific software which I will definitely use is not available under OSX and I hate the concept of installing Windows using Boot Camp, VMWare et al.

If you want to game, grab the HP DV6, comes with HD6770M but no FHD screen.

THe GT525M or GT540M for that matter will be impotent at 1920x1080 resolution for gaming(fifa exception)
