Hi,

I am looking for a new laptop for my friend. He never ever plays any game. not even Farmville. But, he watches a hell lot of movies, HD 720p and 1080p alike...

I was looking at the Dell Vostro 3400 and the Dell Inspiron 14R models.

Inspiron 14R - Rs. 40,111
a) i5-460M
b) 4GB DDR3 RAM
c) 500 GB HDD
d) Intel HD graphics (India) -- on board
e) 9-cell battery
f) Integrated 10/100 Ethernet LAN
g) Dell Wireless 1501 802.11b/g/n Half Mini Card
h) Dell Wireless 365 Bluetooth Internal (2.1+EDR) Mini-Card

Vostro 3400 - Rs. 42,999
a) i5-460M
b) 4GB DDR3 RAM
c) 500 GB HDD
d) Vostro 3400 Intel(R) Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator HD
e) 6-cell battery
f) Dell Wireless Network Card 802.11 b/g/n
g) Dell Wireless 365 Bluetooth Module

1) Which model do you suggest?
2) Is the graphics card on both suitable for playing 720p and 1080p movies? Or, do i need to have dedicated graphics?
3) Any other model with similar configs, and in the same price range?

I would greatly appreciate your advice and comments.

Point Blanc
+1 for vostro, the screen res is not HD ie 1080p, u can watch 720p movies without problem, 1080p will get downsized, you will get full HD display only in dell xps 15, or you check sony models but the HD screens in sony would be core i3

thanks ... its great to know that integrated graphics would support the HD movies.

I think I should go for the Inspiron 14R since it is more multimedia oriented, and provides a 9-cell battery.

He doesn't prefer 15" notebooks. that's why I am looking for 14" models.

Maybe, I should wait for a few days and see the reviews for the Sandy Bridge.

Thanks again,
